Technology
Purplenova is built around our patent pending technology that makes it possible to web-host content directly from any internet-connected computer irrespective of the network type. The Publisher (one who wants to web-host files/ services / etc) downloads and installs Purplenova on his internet-connected Windows computer. The computer could be behind Routers / Firewalls / Proxies / NAT Devices etc, and your internet connection could be of any type. In case of files and web-pages (including those with client-side scripting) web-publishing is as simple as a drag and drop of the files / folders into the Purplenova window. Purplenova interfaces (proxies) to traditional web-server softwares such as IIS and Apache. Publishers can run web-sites and web-services using these traditional web-server softwares (either on the same computer or on the LAN), and provide direct web-access to them via Purplenova.
When a particular resource is designated for hosting via Purplenova, it is assigned a HTTP URL (Unique Resource Locator). When a reader enters this url in any standard browser, the resource is fetched from the publisher's computer and delivered to the reader. This means your computer needs to be ON when it is set up to serve content with Purplenova. All traffic to and from the web-publisher’s computer is routed through Purplenova Master Proxy, which provides protection to the web-publisher’s computer from spam, malware, etc.
Purplenova supports vanity domain names, sub-domain names, etc. (eg, one can have a website on a home computer accessible with home.myname.com)
From the perspective of readers, search engine bots, etc, there is no difference between hosting with an ISP vs hosting with Purplenova. |
